What makes your heart sing? What makes you feel truly joyful?
This is a topic that has been on my mind for a few days now; between messages from entrepreneur friends who are travelling around Spain, Greece, California, to the clients who are rediscovering, or figuring out how to discover for the first time, what truly makes them happy, what they can do that isn't just chores and work and demands, to the pre-work created for the amazing Jumpstart Your Life Summit (which, if you haven't joined, why not?? Get over here already!)
This was a subject that had me stumped for the longest time. When my first coach asked what I would do it I didn't have to work, I didn't know how to answer. Not in that cute, oh my answer isn't special enough kind of way.
Full on, complete blank.
My entire life had been work; I know that it's the same for many of my clients. They shaped their lives around their proposed careers and honestly, when you think about it for a moment, isn't that a recipe for disaster? To spend your entire life focused on what you want to do for 8 hours a day and exclude the other 16.
It came up more than 18 months ago when I worked with my first client; an old friend who wanted more balance in her life and to not feel exhausted all the time.
When I gave her a daily timesheet to fill out to see how she was spending her time, she discounted Monday to Friday completely because 'I'm at work'.
When we sat and worked it back, of course she didn't work from waking to sleeping every single day; in fact, she discounted nearly 30 hours a week in the hours spent before and after work that weren't just commuting or eating - almost as much time as she spent at work each week!!
Where can you find space and time to focus on what brings you joy? Where can you spend time on what brings you the most fun, the most benefit, the most relaxation and happiness and laughter?
Isn't that worth scratching a few admin tasks off the to-do list for?
