Burn-out is a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It is characterized by three dimensions: feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion; increased mental distance from one's job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one's job

On Thursday 23rd April 2020 I was due to travel to Hampshire to deliver Burnout Prevention session to an entire firm of solicitors, via a series of three workshops taking place throughout the day.

That obviously didn't happen.

I delivered this introduction to burnout session for private individuals instead.

Join the homestudy replay of this workshop when I will be helping you to:

  • Understand what burnout is & dispel the burnout myths

  • Identify burnout behaviours within yourself and others

  • Create a working life that actively prevents burnout

  • Know what practical steps to take to manage and reverse burnout

This workshop is available for unlimited replay, together with a copy of my slides workbook.

What is burnout and why am I talking to you about it?

My name’s Leah and I’m the founder of Searching for Serenity

I provide mentoring and training to both private individuals and companies on the topics of burnout, stress resilience, imposter syndrome and building sustainable careers with real longevity and enjoyability. I’m a former litigation lawyer who discovered the topic of burnout when I was, yet again, crying in the toilets at work wondering why I was so exhausted and struggling and felt like a failure. For the past 5 years my work has been exclusively been around the puzzle pieces that make up a resilient, engaging, rewarding and enjoyable career. Whilst I work with a lot of lawyers, I have also worked with teachers, medical professionals, case managers, therapists, marketeers, business owners and more besides

Why this training?

If you’ve felt tired, unable to ‘bounce back’ and drowning under your work responsibilities for a while, then you need to know 3 key things:

  • It’s not you;

  • You’re not alone; and

  • How to start to recover

This is where most people get it wrong; trying to work harder to dig themselves out of a mess, embarking on a new diet or exercise plan, or thinking that they just have to give up and leave their career in order to regain their life.

Burnout is a death by a thousand papercuts and it takes small, yet measurable and meaningful, adjustments to recover from burnout and to ensure you don’t experience the zombiefied feelings again.

That’s what this workshop aims to provide; real knowledge and understanding, clarity about what burnout is (and is not) and immediately implementable steps you can take the same day (no green juice, meditation pillow or P45 required).

It’s not going to cure everything overnight, but it’s the place to start.

Want some reassurance?

I don’t want to waste your precious time and energy, so here’s a few things to know about my work and decide whether it’s right for you.

I founded Searching for Serenity in 2016 and since then have delivered more than 500 hours of mentoring and training, working with around 200 individuals on some kind of 1:1 level, nearly 50 of them intensively. The Burnout Prevention Session workshop has, in some guise or another, been delivered to more than 1,500 corporate delegates over the past 21 months, to a variety of companies, ranging from 10 employees to over 5,000.

Past and repeat corporate clients include DLA Piper, DAC Beachcroft, Zurich, Aviva, Young Resolution, Kent Law Society, the Employment Lawyers Association, the Nursing and Midwifery Council and MBL Seminars.

I am currently undertaking the Institute of Leadership and Management Certificate in Executive and Senior Level Coaches and Mentors, Level 7, although this workshop was written before commencing the course.
